BLOGS

“What if I don’t want my blog to show up on search engines?”

Simple, just do this:
Settings > Privacy > I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors

“What if I don’t want this blog to be shown when someone types in my name on Google?”

Then don’t use your full name at any point on the blog. If others list you on their blogroll on their own blogs, ask that they don’t use your full name.

“Can I delete my blog?”

When marks have been returned to you and the module board has met (usually by August), you can delete it, continue to write or change it as you wish.

“What if I already have a blog, can I use that for this module?”

No. Please use a separate blog for this module.

“I use my blog for my business and don’t want to post my reflections on it. What can I do?”

Then, don’t use your module blog for your business. Please use a separate blog for this module.

“Can I back date my posts?”

No. My software programme collects the posts as you publish them, with it’s own timestamp. Changing the date on your posts is academic misconduct.

“Can I put all of my posts together in one post?”

No. Each post needs to be separate as is outlined on the assessments page. One post equals just that—one post. No exceptions.

“What if I want to write something negative about my teammates or someone else?”

Don’t do this. The purpose of the blog is to write down ideas and lessons for the future, not to vent or complain about others. If you want to reflect on a negative experience, do so in general terms, without using names or places. This is simply practice in acting professionally.

“I didn’t do my blogs by the deadline? Am I the exception to the rule?”

There were two deadlines for the blogs on the assessments page. If you didn’t make the deadline, it will be capped at 40% up to two weeks. However, turning in an assignment months after it is due is a zero, unless you have mitigating circumstances and have met with me in areasonable timeframe after the deadline. Note: Contacting me about blog problems just before the module ends is not reasonable.

“I’ve never posted anything on my blog. Can I start now?”

You still have the potential to write your remaining posts by the May deadline on the assessments page. However, your maximum potential will be 50%, as you only did half of the required work by the deadline.

“How do I make a reference in my reflective essay?”

The reflective essay is written in first person. To reference something, create a hyperlink. For example:

I learned how to write my reflective essay, when I read the comments under the FAQ’s page.

Notice how the word above is a link. This is how you can create a “reference” in your reflective essay.

Good references are the same as any other reference you would include in a report. Referencing a friend is not a quality source, unless they so happen to be an authority in what you are discussing. Wikipedia is an interesting resource, but it changes constantly and therefore is not something that can be used statically. Keep this principle in mind when you link to a webpage and ask yourself, “Is this page likely to be here a year from now?” If the answer is no, consider whether this is a good link or not.

“Can I quote myself?”

Yes, if you are referencing a previous post, for example:

In March I realised quickly that “teamwork is a challenge with a lot of obstacles that need to be overcome through creative problem solving”.

This is how you could link to the source of the post you wrote in March (as an example).

HOWEVER, please don’t just quote yourself. It’s not only vein, but boring. It’s best for you to draw on a range of external sources. Have you found anything online this year connected to this module that inspired you? Good! Reference it! Our delicious feed is a great source for this.

How do we pay our Trade Fair fees?

In any trade fair, there is a booth fee. Luckily, your booth fee is just £10 for each trade fair. You will need to pay this fee in order to set up your booth. Payable at the start of the trade fair at the registration desk.
